The "tech" at the office gets a free pass and does not have to fix ANY firewire connected hard disk. It appears to be an unstable setup on the PC, but works on the Mac.
PS. The bug is there, but not limited to XP SP2. Noted in Windows 2000 as well. I know of no cure short of connecting it to USB 2.0.
I am using a 250 GB hard drive connected via firewire on windows XP service pack 2.
My harddrive works fine till about a few hrs (at least 5) and then performs a disappearing act; as in it disappeard from mycomuter drive listing where it was previously listed as H:!! If I reboot, i find it listed and recognized again!! On inspecting my device manager when the drive disappeares I find the little yellow exclamation mark parked next to Prolific PL3507 Combo device, which appears to be the firmware of the chipset used by my enclosure,so there is some problem with that!! How do I resolve it? Is there a firmware update/ patch that can fix my problem?
I contacted the hardware company and they said it was a bug with microsoft service pack 2 and that microsoft was aware of the problem and was working to resolve it!!! I dont trust these sales people and hence I am posting here.
Any Help will be very appreciated
