External Hard Drive Directory Change

Not enough knowledge of computers, but enough to ask the question here.

I have an external harddrive that I use to run some personal programs on a work laptop. The external's was always E: drive. Two days ago, when I plugged my external in, it registers the same external as F: drive. This is preventing me from accessing some databases that are looking for files that start with E:. Can someone help me change the name back to E:?

Thanks in advance.
