external drive full backing up files

Greetings to the forum

I have a 500gb external hard drive, and its stating it is full, all though all my files are 200gb in total, its saying it has occupied another 300gb of space which is out of the question. So i spotted in my hard drive it has a folder which my pc windows7 i doing a back up by the looks of it and installing the backup there, and found 300gb worth of files laying in there. So is it wise to delete those files/folders since its causing me this problem?would it affect my external hard drive?

best regards.

external drive full backing up files

Hi joyplayer69,

This windows backup is a tool which is known as Backup and Restore.
Here are the links for your reference: Backup your files
Backup and Restore .
It seems that 2 backup processes are running on the computer; manual and automatic.
So, you can either perform a manual backup or an automatic backup.
If you delete the 300 GB files, it will not affect your external hard drive. However, check if you want to save any files from the folder prior to deleting it.
In the Backup and Restore, you can also create an Image Backup which will come handy if the system is not functioning properly.
You can also schedule the backup. Refer to the video on Backup your files .
You can also refer to this link to Turn off the scheduled backup .
You can refer to Backup and Restore FAQs .

Please reply for any further questions.

Thanks and Regards,
Manpreet C
