Question

External display (TV) suddenly shows poor quality image

Mar 12, 2018 3:13PM PDT

Recently I started using this 22" LCD TV as a second monitor for my laptop. Everything went fine, I tweaked it with the standard display settings in Windows 10 to display a 1920x1080p image. Note that my laptop's monitor's max res is 1600x900. It did show a very clear Full HD image for a while, thus better than my laptop's screen, but at one point I plugged it in (I use a DisplayPort->HDMI connector) and the image on the TV screen was zoomed in and the colors all messed up (as in too bright or saturated-just not right), when it was still set on 1080p (according to pc and TV info, with 60Hz refresh rate). Now the recommended quality has changed to 1360x768p, for the TV screen, as seen in Display settings. I tried re-installing the video adapter drivers, messing around with gamma etc. but nothing satisfying. Note that even if I set the tv's aspect to 'just scan' it gives a 1080p image but still with messed up colors and kind of blurry text. Not what I had a week ago. Tried different HDMI cable, even VGA, still not right. How does this suddenly happen? What can be done about it? Thank you for helping me.
