External Device File Transfer Error!!!!

Sep 29, 2007 7:37AM PDT

hello everyone, i will begin by saying that i am not a total noob and that this problem i am have is pervasive and really frustrating me.

the problem: simple file transfer from desktop (or wherever) to psp ('external drive'/'removable disk'/'memory card'/etc...) fails

error message: "could not find this item" - "this is no longer located in c:\users\rob\desktop..." - "verify the items location and try again"

computer: new, fast, with vista ultimate

what i've tried: cut and paste file, drag and drop file, copy and paste file, formatting sony memory stick from computer and from psp menu, restart computer, search internet for answer (no solution available)

other points: - only started recently
- the file im trying to transfer is definitely there and transferable
- psp still functioning properly
- small files and folders transfer fine
- other external storage device (hard drive) working fine
- after the failed transfer my psp folder appears empty until i disconnect and reconnect, upon reconnect the file i was trying to transfer appears but it is incomplete as it will not run on my psp

please help me!
thanks, Rob

What I use is a card reader.
Sep 29, 2007 7:41AM PDT

I put the memory stick in a card reader (formatted in the PSP) and then I write to that. There are too many things that can go horribly wrong over the usb to PSP link so I go the card reader router.

One last hurrah? Disable UAC and plug the USB cable into the rear USB ports.

hey, thanks for the advice but im still stuck because i dont have a card reader. I would go out and get one but i only give it a small chance of working and i'd prefer not to waste that money.

I tried plugging the usb into all of my ports to no avail
I've also had UAC disabled since day one so thats not the problem

any other ideas???

thanks,
Rob

You may be SOL.

Short of luck. I've used card readers for years to fix this issue. If that doesn't work then the card is dead.
