External 22" monitor to Dell Vostro 1500, XP Home

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 (Vostro 1500 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, XP Home) that I would like to be able to use with an Acer 22" widescreen monitor. I am a novice at docking stations/port replicators but the homework I've done suggests that there aren't any real options for a quality/reliable docking station that will accommodate a Vostro 1500, XP, with a 22" external monitor.
1. Am I mistaken - are there in fact some good docking station solutions?
OR
2. Can the laptop be connected directly to the 22" external monitor & if so, what kind of parts are required?
Thank you

Thanks very much,CODAMAN12
Is this solution plug n play or would I have to reboot the laptop everytime I wish to connect to this external display (a potential annoyance in which case it may be better to continue my search for the convenience of a docking station)?

no reboot, just

In reply to: Re: if your

plug the monitor in. If XP doesn't ask you what you want to do, right click on the laptop screen, go to properties and tell it what you want it to do.
