General discussion

exterior monitor with dell laptop

Feb 13, 2009 1:57AM PST

Have connected Dell Insperion 1501 laptop to a external monitor. Is there a way in which to suppress the laptop's monitor while connected to the external monitor without interfering with its ability to function when disconnected from the external monitor?

For me this was simple.

I used the Fn+Fkey assigned to tell the laptop which display to use.

Are you aware of the Fn key and how to use it?

Thanks for the reply. Based on your answer, I discovered that using the fnc and F8 will toggle to one or the other screen or to no screen at all. As usual, your responses have been a big help. Thanks again.

They change from machine to machine but my question was to point you to the right area to look into.

Thanks for the success report.
