Extended Warranty Needed for Canon Powershot A700?

Apr 18, 2006 11:27AM PDT

Does it make sense to purchase an extended warrenty for a Canon Powershot A series camera? I want to purchase an A700 from BestBuy, but I would like to know from any Canon A series owners out there if an extended warrenty was actually needed. The last thing I want is to spend $100 for something I won't need.

Thanks.

Extended Warranty

The question of Extended Warranty or not has been posted before and there were many compelling reasons to have the Warranty and many compelling reasons not to buy the Warranty.

The result was about fifty-fifty.

I would say, after reading all those replies.....
"toss a coin".

Wanted to Know Actual Experience from Canon Powershot Owners
Apr 20, 2006 12:56AM PDT

Thanks for the response. When I try to search for the phrase "extended warranty" or similar phrases, the search results bring up everything from reviews of other products, so many web ads, and other junk. When I did find the results from the forums, nothing really came up to help me.

So I am trying to seek the experience from other Canon Powershot owners, especially A series owners.

Are there any problems (besides the vague E18 error) that an extended warranty was useful?

I can't believe no one who reads this forum does not own a Canon Powershot camera that can say how their camera is . I am quite dissapointed with the lack of responses.

digital camera's

I always buy everything electronic at Best Buy and I always get the extended warentee. I usually buy everything sony...but anyway. I hear for tv's def ext warranty, but usually they say if anything is going to happen to your camera, etc it will usually happen within the first week. I always buy them, but never have to use them. I have my cameras for 1-2 years and then I am buying another, so I guess it depends on how long you will own your camera. Do you have small children that can get their hands on your camera? I dont think it is worth it...but I always buy it. Sorry did this even help?

Extended Warranty...Yes or No.

I sent my Canon SD550 to Canon for repair (E18 error). I'd purchased the camera in 12/05, so it was well within the warranty period (5 monmths). Initially Canon rejected the warranty repair, due to what it said there was a "dent" on the camera, indicating user damage due to dropping the camera. I knew better, and so disputed their decision. They passed me to a higher level person in the repair department, who upon looking at the camera himself, decided it was not a dent, but more a "scrape", and allowed the warranty repair. Had this person not allowed the repair I was prepared to pursue it even further because I felt a warranty repair was justified due to the fact I'd NOT dropped the camera, and the E18 error is, I now know, soooo common. I say all of this to show what can happen, and will probably get the extended warranty with my next camera.
