Question

Extend a DIR-868L wireless range with a DWL-2600ap

Feb 22, 2015 8:11AM PST

Does anyone know if this specific combination is possible? The D-link forums seem to make it impossible to actually ask a question.

Actually I was too short on that.

Q. Does an AP extend the range of the DIR-868L ?
A. No. The DIR-868L has it's own WiFi hotspot but the second AP will create a new zone that can be in your LAN.

It's important to understand the subtle differences.

Can you tell me what the subtle differences are? Can the new zone created by the AP have the same SSID as the router? It sounds like they're not the most compatible devices for this sort of thing - I would have thought 2 D-Link devices would recognize each other without too much fuss and Bob's your uncle...

Sorry, I just did that.

YOUR CHOICE on the SSID. I never duplicate the SSID as I want to know which I connect to.

Your D-Link's may have some other solution to extend but I find the old "WAP as a Router" solution to be very very good and not much fuss at all.
