Explorer History refuses to go

by psions5 / November 1, 2004 2:00 AM PST

Every time I type in an adress in the internet explorer adress bar, it shows a list of all the things I have typed in, suc as if i do www.goog...it comes up with:

www.google.co.uk
www.google.co.uk/search/Video+Music
e.t.c

I used to use Clear cookies/Clear histoy/Clear files to get rid off it all and I have steganos internet eraser that also used to clear them all, but now they refuse to leave no matter what i do? What up, how do I stop it.

That looks more like AUTOCOMPLETE entries. Clear those.

Give this a try.....
by radean / November 1, 2004 7:17 AM PST

Right click on your Taskbar
Click on Properties
Click the Start Menu tab
Click on Customize
Click on Clear. "Removes the list of recently accessed documents, programs, and Web sites from the Documents menu."

I just tried this, and works for me. However, it will clear most of your other MRU lists also, including Run, and Recent Documents. Not a big deal.

And, in IE, may want to go to Tools, Internet Options, Content, Auto Complete, and uncheck Web Addresses.

I just googled Meta+spyware and there is a Meta search engine that some consider spyware. I personally have not heard of this particular one but that doesn't make any difference. Have you run any spyware detectors? You may have been hijacked. Seeing as nothing else has helped, I would think that would be your logical next step.

Re: Explorer History refuses to go due to Spyware?

That "meta" is a clue the machine has Spyware and why nothing seems to be working.

I'd make a pass with and eject all that you find with Adaware, Spybot, Cwshredder, Stinger and Housecall. Find with google.com or http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 Remember that these are FREE tools.
