Resolved Question

explorer folder order

Mar 30, 2016 6:21AM PDT

I am working on a lengthy document with chapters, sub-chapters etc. using MS Word 2000. I am using I guess it is explorer's folder system. I have 10 chapters each in a different folder (at a later time this will all be put together as a single document). I use folders within folders within folders, etc. Each folder has a title or name is there any way of keeping these folders in non-alpha order other than by using a number in front of the title. In other words what I would like to do is put these folders in order of importance which will be non-alphabetic AND without the use of a number. Is this possible? So far all I have been able to find searching is that the order is in alpha order or reverse alpha order or by use of a number.

Maybe Windows File Explorer is the wrong app?

These file explorers are out there by the dozens so you might have to find or create a new one that fits your requirements.

Definitely wrong app

Didn't know there were apps for this. I am going to try Xplorer 2 Lite. I just hope that the learning curve doesn't take too long since I am rather slow to adapt to new things.
Thanks Robert and Kees for your input, your quick responses are always appreciated.

You can sort folders (like files) on any field that you show by clicking on the header. So find a suitable field other than name and use that.
But it might very well be you can't find any suitable field. Then it's a no-go.
