Explorer.exe has generated errors

Dec 17, 2003 1:23AM PST

Recently, we installed win2K over win98...we had some problems though so we had to do a clean install of Windows 2000. My computer is basically home-built (by my boyfriend) but I will tell you all I know of it. We have an AMD 600 processer, an Asus motherboard (I think A7v333 or something like that), 512mb Ram, and 2 hard drives one 20G and one 30G. Anyway, we did the clean install of the OS, my boyfriend installed Norton System Works and the ethernet software so I could get back online, and then I installed the recommended OS updates from Microsoft. When I try to open "my computer" or the control panel I get an errer that says Explorer.exe has generated errors The program will close. Any ideas? Sorry if I have not given enough info...Thanks

I should add that the System Works is 2003 and part of that included Roxio Go Back 3 which was also installed directly after the System Works itself

I'll write that I must take a pass on this issue since the Symantec 2003/2004 software created too many problems than it solved.

I wish you the best of luck in recovery.

I will share that I just installed another machine last week with Windows 2000 and used Free AVG from http://www.grisoft.com and since it was behind a firewall, I didn't have to install Zone Alarm. Then I updated all the Windows Update offerings and its working great.
