General discussion

Explanation of processors and software.

Oct 29, 2006 10:37PM PST

Can someone please explain the types of software different processors will run omn a PC now and in the next year or two? I want to get a business computer that will use a DSL line, share it's drives on a network, run Peachtree Accounting software, run Microsoft Office 2003 software, and be able to upgrade to running the Vista OS. Thank you.

If it runs today, it will in 2 years.

Without any need to move to Vista.

In fact, the big question is what's in Vista that is needed for your use?

Why Vista?

Peachtree software has a way of "forcing" you to upgrade their product every other year or so. I am concerned their next version will require Vista to be the OS.

Then it's simple.

Get a machine with the Vista coupon and hang on.

But today Peachtree still runs on Windows 2000 so to say XP is dead in 2 years is a bit of a stretch.
