expired hp cartridge on HP all-in-one 7410

Hi,

Black cartridge expired -thought it was empty went to Costco to have it refilled. The man there, to his credit, said it was still 10% full.

Then he looked at the expiration date and said it was unusable because of the expiry date was exceeded.

I read gurukirsh's explanation to peel the chip off but for my printer -there is no external expiration date chip -everything is covered with plastic of the cartridge.

With the expired cartridge in the printer, the printer is frozen in get-a-new-cartridge mode.

Please help!
