Use the powerline adapters to get an ethernet connection to your room, then attach your router to the adapter. You would only need to configure your router as a wireless access point; no need to copy settings from the owner's router.
Hi, I currently have a room in the basement of a large house with the router up in an office on the 3rd floor (so 2 levels in between mine and that one). It is large in square footage as well. The wireless signal in the basement is actually best outside of my little studio apartment, I seem to have the worst of it.
