Expand my banner ad.

by klief / August 16, 2006 9:07 AM PDT

I'm interested in learning how to create a banner ad that expands and plays a video. Here's an exmple of what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know how to do this or where I might find the information?

If I follow your link I get a page with a LOT of things to click on, indeed. But which one of those is a banner ad like you mean? That might help answering your question.

My Guess...

My guess is that the ad was gone by the time you got there, or is on a rotation.

I also am guessing that the type of banner they are looking for is the type that drives me NUTS! I move my mouse over it and it expands over the text i am trying to read or get to.

Yeah that banner is gone.

There's a consistant one at

It's the graphic just below the "sign up for our newsletter" field on the left column.

Yeah it's one of those banners that does make people nuts. We actually want to make one that requires a click to expand. The one on the CBS sports page required a click and then played a Tiger Woods video.

In reply to: D'oh!

A right click shows that it's a flash animation. And there's a lot of javascript on the page (and in separate script files) that somehow calls it on hovering over the image.
If you master both it won't be too difficult, I think. But I'm not one of those that do.

Hey thanks for the response.

I'm good in Flash and pretty good with Java... From what I've looked at it seems that they're using iFrames too. I'm just not sure how to make it all come together.

I'll keep working on it though.
