Question

Exe small programs "cropped"

Jul 4, 2015 4:51AM PDT

Could someone please help.

I downloaded some programs for games(like Hitman Absolution, Prototype) and on my old monitor 5:4 everything was great.

I bought a new display 16:9 and now the programs won't appear in full. (Hitman Disguise replacer, Prototype dll patcher)

The Hitman program isn't a problem because you can still see the buttons but with the Prototype one I can't see the PATCH buttonSad
And I even tried TAB to get to the patch button with no luck

Sorry that I could not give you a solid answer on that. But a day later a neuron connected and I wondered if this old setting would apply.

Yes, it helped another app long ago. Not something I use but once every few years.

Thanks for the report back.

Answer
Change the display resolution?
Jul 4, 2015 5:05AM PDT

I'm not sure if I am missing something here but whichever Operating System, (OS), you are using, (I am guessing Windows but you don't say which), can't you change the display resolution?

In most Windows OSes from Win XP onwards the OS itself offers a default display resolution which is more often than not the best option.

But only these 2 programs(small trainer like ones)

Everything else is good, Mozilla, windows explorer, games... No screen crop problems

Seems like an application issue
Jul 4, 2015 5:50AM PDT

If the only application affected is the Hitman: Absolution Disguise Replacer, then it looks like the problem is with the program/application itself.

I found what looks like the author of this program here; http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3093993

It's an old discussion, 2013, but he may still be around... Ask him for his thoughts?

Let's see also if anyone else here has any ideas.

BTW, does the game still play OK?

Answer
This issue has been kicking around for decades.

I've seen such since 1995 and prior. I can't explain it why Windows and apps continue to be of low quality.

split screen?
Jul 4, 2015 7:17AM PDT

have you tried split screen display and just have it in one side? That should get back to near screen ratio used before. Are these single exe programs? I use Linux with WINE added and those single exe programs work fine in it. Currently use Lviewpro single exe photo program, a favorite since w98 days.

No haven't tried split screen.
Yes they are single exe programs. Tried the Split screen didn't work.
The Prototype program doesn't have minimize, only X(close). And key shortcut doesn't work.

Split screen doesn't work to. Please any more ideas.

I don't know why it worked on my old display and not on my new one.(even when I change my resolution to the one that was on my old display 1280x1024)

did you move from CRT
Jul 4, 2015 9:09AM PDT

to an LCD monitor? If so, try a CRT setting for the display, see if that will work OK on the LCD and allow whatever settings which aren't working in the program to work again. What really needs to happen is whoever wrote the programs to update them.

I upgraded from Samsung LCD 19" (1280x1024) to an Samsung LCD 27" (1920x1080)

from a monitor to a TV LCD?
Jul 4, 2015 10:32AM PDT

If so, then would need to check in Samsung forum here. I've seen a lot of Samsung TV problems come to these forums. If it worked on the other LCD and won't on the larger one, then it's a Samsung problem I'm thinking.

Wild shot. See post about DPI scaling.

If not, just another app with issues.
