...maybe it is associated with this link.
http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl1_lwp-download.htm
However I doubt it - but do you use a download manager like getright??????/ - it seems maybe you are downloading not only exe and ZIP files when your system detects a "click" on a web page' but also a LSP file.

I am still having trouble installing downloaded programs.
When I download a program .exe file on my desktop and i try to open it and install the new program, for some reason my computer reads the file not as a .exe file but as a different type of file. At the moment adobe acrobat is the program that activates and trys to open the .exe file. I have tryed to roght click the icon and find a different program to open it with but I had no luck. Any help, suggestions?
Clearly some default setting is off.
Thank you for the suggestion, but I don't think I am in the position to do that. First of all, I don't really know when this problem started, second restoring at previous date would eliminate way too many things we need now.
Any other ideas out there?
Please help is needed.
are you having problems opening *.exe files or is this some sort of research you are doing?
hint as to restore date, some date before your first post as I imagine that is when your problem started.
and click properties????
Provide all of that info.
It says it is a LWP file.
See, I need to make a clarification.
When I am asked where to save the file, before downloading it, it only gives me two options for the type of files:
1. *.lwp
2. all files
saving in lwp does not allow me to open it with any associated prgrams and I can't find any others when I browse
saving it in all files type does not change a thing.
I need to be able to change the " save as type " setting
It's not an .EXE and commonly a problem for those that move from system to system and don't have WordPro to open it.
If one opens the file with DEBUG (moderate to advanced users can do this) we seen the ASCII: WordPro.........LWP in the file.
Fix? Ask the supplier of the file for RTF versions.

Ok thank s for the suggestions but so far no luck.
I will use a very real example to see if someone can help me.
I go to Netscape and follow the instructions to download Netscape 8.0
at the time of saving the exe file to the desktop in the "save as type" dialog box, I only have the option of saving it as either a " *lwp " file or as " all files "
no matter what I choose the downloaded file will look like an .exe one but it will be read as a lwp file, am I making any sense? Is this helping understand what is happening?
thanks again for any solutions
I want to thank you all for trying, so far no luck but we shall overcome....
so this is a very real scenario
I want to download the new netscape, when I click on the download link the download manager gives me this:
"nsb.setup.exe.lwp"
and in "advance" it describes it as an "lwp file" openable by "adobe acrobat" and says it is an "application/octet-stream"
I have tryed to go into netscape preferences and tyry to delete that type of file, but it won't give me that option.
I am definetly not going to mess with the registry, I need a simpler solution.
Like for instance if I knew what program runs an .exe extension then I could right click on the downloaded file and choose "open with" and the all problem could be solved since I would choose that program as default, no?
Try removing the extra extension, and save to disk. Make sure you scan for viruses before opening/running it.
