Excel XLS file.How to open?

by peterwhiteside / December 9, 2004 4:55 AM PST

I'm running Windows XP, with O.E. I have received a Excel Spreadsheet XLS file, as an E-mail attachment.
Attempting to open this attachment, the following "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, create an association in the folder options control panel"? I'm lost. I see from CNet Downloads a free trial Windows Office (containing the Excel program). I don't really want to download the whole Windows Office program just to get Excel. Any suggestions?
Thank you. Peter.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
