Excel & Mouse Wheel programming

by look4contact / November 16, 2004 8:08 AM PST

Does anyone know of a way in an Excell Spreadsheet to use the mouse wheel to move the cell up or down one cell at a time rather than scrolling the whole page using the wheel?

Config Panel>Mouse.

What you get might be driver dependent, but mine has for tabs, with the last one named 'Scrollwheel' and offering the possibility to scroll 1,2,3,4,... lines or a page at a time. If it's the same with you, it might be set to 'page'. Play a little bit with it, and let us know if it works.

Hope this helps.

Look4contact,

When I wrote this morning, I was at my work, where I have Windows XP and a Compaq (a few days ago replaced by a Logitech) mouse. I suppose it was the standard XP driver.

Here at home, with Windows 95, I've got a Trust mouse (with a amoumain.exe runtime), where it's on the Setting tab. Same choices (a number of lines, or a page). And, indeed, when set to "page" it rolls from A1 to A24 (800x600 monitor), when set to "3 lines" it scrolls from A1 to A4 in Excel. Exactly as I expected this morning (but didn't try then).

So all I can say: search your mouse help, or even: install the driver. Or, if you don't have the driver anymore, buy a new mouse (with diskette) or try to set in the registry. With me here, it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\A4TechOEM\Mouse\CurrentVersion\Settings with a subkey VertScrollLines (3) and VertScrollPage (0). But that's driver dependent, I'm afraid.

Kees

Hope this helps.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
