Excel: Adjust single cell height/width

Feb 2, 2010 6:01AM PST

I have been trying to figure out how to adjust height and/or width of a single cell in excel.

I don't want the whole row/column to adjust in size, just a single cell.

Anyone know if its possible?

Alas, no.

A cell has to fit in the matrix, so be just as high as other cells in the row and just as wide as other cells in the column.

But you may merge adjoining cells in a row to one cell, just as wide as 2 (or 3 or 4 or ...) of the cells directly above and below. Doesn't work with columns, however.

Unless I misread the request,

you can merge cells vertically and format the merged result's alignment. If for example, cells C3:C8 are merged and $2.45 input to that cell, it would be referenced as C3 in related cells. If copying such a formula down column E, the formula should include C$3 as that merged cell's identity.

ah thank you

That is somewhat along the lines of what I wanted to do. It doesn't really let me adjust any cell individually but it can make a group seem like one cell (which makes it bigger).

Thanks
