Excel '03 driving me nuts.

May 8, 2007 3:20AM PDT

I'm having the stupidest problem with Excel 2003. I'm sure the answer is gonna be really simple, but I'm not having any luck.

I'm doing up a chart, showing dates of events. It's for fundraising drives and such, so we're doing it in such a way that it's only supposed to show the month and year, and continuous events will be highlighted, for the months that they're going on. Now, here's my problem: I'm trying to make the top cells say just the month and year, and Excel refuses to let me do that. If I type "JUNE 07", it autocorrects to "07-JUN", and if I type "06/07" or "06/2007", it insists on correcting the field to "6/1/2007". I just want it to say "JUNE 07", so how do I disable this idiotic autocorrection?

I've got a few more issues, too. First of all, how in the heck do I get this program to print as a landscape? And, finally, how can I make text take up multiple vertical lines in a column, instead of having to make the collumn far too wide to print properly? I can do it if I copy into word, but I'd much rather not have to.

1.) Select all of the top cells in question, right-click one of them, select properties, and on the Number tab select Text. That will enable it to remain as the plain text you type instead of auto-correcting the date.

2.) You can change from Portrait to Landscape layout by going into Page Setup, which you should find in the File menu.

3.) Select all of the cells in question, right-click one of them, select properties, choose the Alignment tab, and check "Wrap Text." If the text exceeds the width of the column it will then continue on the next line.

Hope this helps,
John

Thanks a lot for the help. I'm used to working in a Mac environment, so being on XP Pro with Office is throwing me off, a bit!
