Yesterday for me as well

However, I noticed the progress bar of deleting the old signatures wasn't moving for quite a long time and stayed at zero% so I cancelled it. Then it couldn't connect for the update because it kept telling me it was already in progress, but nothing was happening the rest of the day. I finally shut down last night and when I got up this morning, I went to run the program, it said it couldn't find the database and to run the online update. I did that, it downloaded over 4MB and then the scan ran fine.

Haven't got a clue about yesterday's happening, but all seems OK today.

Same experience and after the long download...

I ran ewido and it seemed ok. My conclusion was they were clearing the old data base with all the daily updates and starting a fresh data base. Just my guess and opinion... could be wrong!

That was a complete database update

and it was supposed to be that way. Peter Ewido posted into the Wilders support forum thread about it yesterday.

Start with post #10 in this thread. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=119053

The online updater has also been sporadic but you can also install this or any of the updates manually by clicking on the link that I post when I post the updates which is here.

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Normally there are 2 downloads there, a small one for recent updates and a large one with the full database. They are the same at the moment because the current update IS the whole database. IF and WHEN you ever do it this just click "open" or "run" on the download and the installer will install it for you. One note though if you do it manually. The new update number WILL change when you do it this way but the date will remain the same as the last time you used the updater on the program. The next time you are able you use the updater on the program, the date will correct itself so it is nothing to worry about . I hope this clears up any confusion and this IS a common problem so I'm not just posting this for this particular update. It will work any time if you happen to have a problem with the updater on the program.

Auto update
by shylaugh / February 8, 2006 9:56 AM PST

On the auto update in Ewido everytime I go on line it downloads the same 4816kb so I guess I will turn the auto update off and wait for the next update and do it myself. It shows 265,211 known threats then downloads and shows none. Will wait until someone else has the same problem. Thanks

Shylaugh... if you have tried

updating online once without success, you need to reboot your computer, before trying a second time.

Having said that, the #1710 version of the database should be at 265,211 known threats. Are you saying there is no ''actual'' number there, when you say ''it shows none''?

Or.. as you said.. you can wait.

Carol

This may help too.. (http://www.ewido.net/en/support/)

This is what is happening
by shylaugh / February 8, 2006 12:02 PM PST

Known threats show 265.211 version 1710 but everytime I go online the Ewido auto update downloading update obsolete database 4816kb. It just updates the same thing over and over. I have used the tool. I think I will undo auto update and do it myself and see what happens. The update is successful but repeats itself.

When in doubt..

You can always post at Ewido's Forum. (You may even see someone with a similar problem)

In the meantime, Roddy know's a great deal about Ewido and should see this by morning. Wink

problem today, just follow Carol's advice to reboot and if that does not work, she posted a link for the support forum at Wilders. The Ewido's themselves are pretty quick about answering problems there. The current Database # is 1713 and the threats should be 266,252.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
