General discussion

Evie, FYI, the contents of a removed post

May 5, 2006 8:33AM PDT

can be reposted that you 'really want to be shown' if it meets certain conditions. Re: Lee Koo's post introducing the Mods message:
''ATTENTION Speakeasy forum members: Please read carefully''
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6130-0.html?forumID=50&threadID=140989&messageID=1581972&tag=

''....if it contains a 'zinger' of any kind, or a snide remark, a blatant insult to members or a culture, or any other derogatory type comment, the post will be removed. There will be no emails about it (figure it out on your own and repost the content that you really want to be shown);...''

The type was not bold in the original.

I have not seen anything if this also applies to padlocked posts.

I think

I have seen something about progressive members getting a knuckle sandwish for whinging about the ToS in the past. I wonder why it isn't happening now when it is the ultra reactionary people who are "throwing a wobbler".

Evie, your last non-Modalert e-mail was in December!
May 6, 2006 1:34PM PDT

You make it sound like we've been repeatedly ignoring e-mails you send, and that is definitely not true -- the one before that was a full month earlier (we generally keep all the correspondence that comes through the box).

Didn't say that emails are ignored ...
May 6, 2006 2:20PM PDT

... said they are futile as they end up accomplishing nothing. I'm not the only one that feels this way ... probably the reason for Don's thread in the first place. So it's been a while since I've wasted my time. Just sharing my experience that apparently sounds familiar to a few of the other members here.

And please don't violate the privacy of any more members by detailing how often or how many emails you've gotten from them.

ignored versus futile
May 6, 2006 3:47PM PDT

so....

the way you've been splashing the word futility around, i was under the impression that you were sending 2-3 emails a day to the mods, when in fact you haven't...

your use of innuendo:
not the only one that feels this way ...
probably the reason for Don's thread
my experience that apparently sounds familiar to a few of the other members here
is sleasy to say the least....

IMO, you need to take lessons in civility and how to say "oops! i made a mistake"

I didn't make any oops. If I save one frustrated member one minute sending one futile email, it's worth it.

As for civility? Some moderators need lessons in that. Start by looking in the mirror.

This thread also?

Face it Don ...

... getting JP to accept simple objective facts is an exercise in futility. I presume you know the meaning of that phrase Devil

What's your point?

If the phrase fits ...

Jonah didn't seem to understand the meaning of the phrase. As I said, if I had intended to say that the Mods ignore emails to their addy, I would have said so. I said what I meant.

You need to call an end to your posting about ten posts

before you actually do. That's my opinion.

I just love how I'm being attacked for expressing my opinion that emailing the moderators is futile. Wonder what would happen if I REALLY struck a nerve! Wink

In their general defense, the Moderators have very little power in their positions in the overall scheme of things here.

Doesn't excuse that they do have power to control their own actions and at least do as they say!

Just FYI
May 7, 2006 1:17AM PDT

This whole FYI post by JR is unnecessary. It stems from my calling DK on his abuse of the locking powers at the very same time as we are getting treated to yet another reminder of Lee's message. Bumped up only a few days before by none other than DK himself.

I rarely use the modalerts -- if I do it's for obvious drive-by profanity by some "non-member" or to alert spam. IOW, problems for all forums, not internal SE problems. I just don't bother with emailing anymore as it serves no purpose.

I do MISS the old feature of automated emails when a post got removed ONLY because this new software is so glitchy (especially every time it's *improved*). So sometimes it would be nice to just know if a post was removed for content or if it went into cyberspace. No biggie. Just an observation. I hope most realized long ago the limitations the mods have with the new software. I don't expect notification when posts are removed.
