European TV's and American Computers

Dec 23, 2003 1:25PM PST

Greetings,

I am in the US Air Force and am stationed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and here is the situation.

On our base LAN there is a morale server with movies and TV shows saved as .wmv files. Next to our tent we built a patio with a TV. We tried to hook our laptop up to the TV so we could watch the movies. Everything from the laptop screen displays on the TV screen except the movie. Here is what I did to hook it up, can someone help me close the loop?

1. The laptop is from the USA, a Micron PC Transport GX2 (government issued).
2. The TV is European standard but is PAL / NTSC selectable.
3. The laptop has an RCA video jack only so I spliced a headphone adapter to some RCA cable to plug into the headphone jack.
4. I ran the RCA cable to the TV inputs.
5. We can see the computer screen on the TV, but we can't see the movie. Everything but.

I am at the limit of my technological knowledge. Is there anything I can do further so that we can watch those movies on the TV? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
P2
