Question

eth mining rig

Apr 17, 2017 2:18PM PDT

Hi forum i am in need of your help,i am moving to a student dorm where i would have free electricity in a few days and would like to setup a eth mining rig with 2x rx470 8pin sapphire 4gb cards. So i need your help about what motherboard and psu to get,was planning to use my old i3 cpu with 1155 bracket and 2x4gb 1333 mhz ram+1tb sata 2 ssd and old mini atx tower.Yes i know i could mine much more with pro btc mb and 6 cards but my room doesn't have space or ac to support it .Motherboard can be second hand and I don't plan to expand rig in the future so there is no need for a 1200w psu.Thx in advance

Not familiar with what you can get there.

Since I can't know what's in the market there I'll have to go with generalities and guides.

When you find something, post with full make, model and AGE so folk can comment.

Some old gear had the BAD CAP (google that) issue so I always check it out (with google.)

yea we have limited choice of mb and psu so i was planing to buy them from ebay
can i atleast run 1 rx 470 on my current mobo MSI H61M-P22 (B3) without smoke Happy

What is this smoke problem?
Apr 17, 2017 4:46PM PDT

I haven't seen smoke from systems in over 2 decades. Why are you seeing smoke?

The H61M-P22 (B3) has a single x16 slot so that's OK.

To run 2 GPUs you need more PCIe slots. One at x16 and the second is usually x4 to x16. Varies out there but you get the idea.

that was fast:D

wow you guys are fast HappyThere is no smoke i said that because i m concerned if my current mobo can work on that load 24/7 without frying other components since its a budget mobo.I asked that because i allready have 1 rx 470 and would like to use it untill i get other parts

Answer
Second hand.

And no country means you'll have to search on your own. Try ebay and look for boards with dual PCIe slots with one at x16 and the second at the usual x4 to x16. Since it's a miner you don't care if all the slots are x16. Since this is a topic covered in mining forums I'll stop here.

2x470........250w
I3 and misc.........100w
A nice 700w single rail psu should work.

Mobo?
Pick one that supports your cpu and dual gpu's.
