Esoftdownloads inquiry for WEB DESIGN

Oct 12, 2006 2:57AM PDT

I posted a question that you locked regarding Esoftdownloads. I nned information becuase I need to buy software including Macromedia Flash MX, Photoshop and Dreamweaver and they ahve good prices. The topic is about Web design because it involves software for Web design. Cnet's Forum Software section only includes "Browsers, Coomunications & Messaging, Microsoft Office, PC Apps, Virus & Security". So where do YOU suggest I place the inquiry?

I wouldn't trust them...

A few reasons why:

1. Site registered in May of 2006 for 1 year. Contact information on the domain is private and can't be viewed.

2. Contact information on the website is blank most likely from a template

3. Site looks real basic, like it is from a template and they have tried to force their information into it.

4. Check-out page where you fill in credit card information is http and not https

5. No data validation on orders (I filled in Junk data and it took the form)

I would not trust that 1. I would get the software and 2. if I did get the software that I may not have a legal copy.

and another reason...
Oct 12, 2006 5:06AM PDT

I hate to completely condemn a company without looking into it further. I did a google search and came across another thread about esoftdownloads. They pointed to something right on the terms of service:

3. Terms Of Software Use

3.1 You understand that in order for eSoft to sell you a copy of any software, you acknowledge that
- this software is the full professional version, we do not sell upgrades
- this software can not be registered with its producer for support
- these programs can receive updates but in order to be upgraded to a newer version another full version is needed. (can not upgrade using an upgrade version)
- if the program requires activation you agree to activate through our company by live chat support or by emailing

This really smells like hacked software.

Run away.

No phone, no street address, etc. Sorry, don't feed the (possible) scammers.

What legitimate business would hide such information?

Just in case

Bob,

Just in case this is a method of promoting their site would it make sense to delete the first thread and leave this one up for people to read the responses?

On the edge. Spammers in the forums usually

Dont' stop with just one forum. And rarely reply as this member did. Shills usually register only to dump content. This member did a rewrite.

Subtle but different enough posts to let it stand.

scam vs. illegal
Mar 30, 2008 11:24PM PDT

There is a difference between being a scam and being illegal. While they may send you a link and you download it you may consider that it isn't a scam. However, it doesn't make the copy you get legal. There are multiple locations online where I can download software for free or little cost. The problem is, most of those copies are illegal and in a worst case scenario are infected with spyware and/or viruses.

Just finnished the install. And had to send my activision code back to them, coulden't activate by phone to the Swedish Adobe. I feel really bluffed. I hope that they atleast give me a authorization code, if it is fake how can they still going strong since 2004?
