In ESATA most setups will disable the hard disk write cache. You could guess this is done to make the drive safer from accidental disconnects and you'd be right.

I have a western digital my book external drive. It can run as usb2 or esata. I bought a vantec pci sata card and a cable. All say that the sata can move data 3 times as fast as usb2. I did a test of backing up my hard drive (76 gigs) using norton ghost and the my book with usb2. The backup took 3 hours and 20 minutes. Then I did the same backup only using the my book with sata. The backup took 3 hours even. It was faster than usb2 but not 3 times faster. Any ideas how to get it to run faster?
