Errors in reinstalling Windows XP Home

Feb 27, 2004 12:15AM PST

I have had Windows problems and have tried to reinstall Windows XP Home (not SP1). I encounter this error each time:
Unregmp2.exe The Procedure entry point found. GETIUMS cannot be located in dynamic link library MSDART.DLL.

When I eventually close this window, I get the same message but with dlimport.exe in place of Unregmp2.exe

Can anyone help?

ALSO: I have repeatedly tried to use the Recovery Console but am stopped by Administrator Password, even though I have downloaded the files and created the 6 floppies which is supposed to fix it.

Looks like some PESTS have taken up residence on this machine.

http://www.google.com/search?&q=Unregmp2.exe and specifically...

"Category:

Exploit: A way of misusing or breaking into a system by taking advantage of a weakness in it."

It's my stance that NO PESTS or PARASITES be allowed on machines we want to run in a stable and nice manner. This includes KAZAA in any form!

-> Parasite removal programs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).

The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

Bob

PS. All the tools are free.

Thanks for that advice. Was there something in my errors suggesting that, or just a precaution?

ALSO: My windows\system32\dllcache folder is all in blue. What does that mean?

Links supplied.

Some won't take the time to read supplied links. It's been my policy not to copy much or anything at all from someone elses website and to just supply the link if that site seems to apply in force.

As to BLUE, it just means the files are NTFS compressed. A longer explanation is at http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/XPcompress/xpcompress.htm

ahw,

You'll need the Admin password to run the Recovery console. XP HOME has a hidden Administrator...do you know the password for that user? If none was created, did you simply press the "Enter" key.

For the error messages...Try this:
When the error message comes up Hold down your control Key and then Click the OK button. Keep Clicking until the error goes away.

If that doesn't work, don't hold down the Control Key, just start clicking the OK button until the error goes away.

Hope this helps.
