error680

Apr 28, 2008 9:10PM PDT

Here we go again seeking advice please. I am on a broadband connection for up to8meg. Within the last three days my computer looses its internet connection very often, and I get error 680 after a number of redials it reconnects (I am adsl with a sagem WAN connector) I have checked all my in house connections etc but can find no problems. Usually when it does reconnect I am on a reduced download as low as 1.8mps(i usually run at 4/6 MPS (non weekends) I tried my ISP after much hanging around on the phone they told me " it's fixed" oh no it is'nt, happening again! I will go back to them but would welcome the sort of questions I should ask them to get this resolved. I would add here that I have an intermittent dropping of connection with erro721 for a while(resolved with a restart) if youl excuse me are they connected (sorry!!)help very welcome Dave

You're on ADSL but you dial up? What type of ADSL offers 8 meg?

Error 680 is for dial-up. But you say ADSL. Error 721 is for dial-up.

What am I missing?

Frankly so am I, I have a sagem WAN connector (USB Connection Iam on tiscali "up to 8meg" and have been pretty constantly receiving 6mps plus. Since upgrading to this 8 mps I have had problems with occasional disconnections and have duly had as you say the 721 error. Within the last week I get the connection dropping more frequently and the error680. I have been in touch with my ISP who have "they say" sorted out my bandwidth so that I will commence obtaining the 6mps+ of which my line is capable. However, I have still that disconnection cropping up with the error 680. Nopw I think that this problem lies with their equipment/local exchange, I try to suggest this to the call centre to which I am directed to as at this moment no avail. The increased bandwidth seems to be holding but I am not holding my breath!! Incidentally have just had a disconnection and lo and behold when after numerous redials I am agin connected my speed has dropped from 6.4 to 5.1! I am not a technition as you may gather but want to put my case to tiscali in such a way as theyfeel obliged to sort this problem out Hope this clarifys . still seeking advice David

I had my old DSL modem and router which solved their errors. Sadly it took the ISP weeks to test and replace his modem. Can you find someone's cast off DSL hardware for a test?

Firstly my thanks for those kindly souls who came up with probable answers to my internet connection dropping problems. It transpired that problems could be laid at the feet of my ISP (and they took their time to resolve it!!)
Query, acting on advice from my son who swears by it, I have installed ITunes, ok so far I had some recordings of mine in "my downloads"these were imported into Itunes library, to save duplication I deleted those files in "my downloads" now I discover that itunes cannot play them. Does Itunes only act as a de facto short cut? or can this be got around? Also found playing video clips really awful, totally out of sync, and lacking in difinition.

Let me be blunt.

There is a known issue of video playback on itunes but it revolves around the host PC, some drivers not supplied by Apple. (Blunt!!) You posted nothing about the host machine so I can't tell if it's another same old issue.

Hello, again Bob, Thanks for your speedy response. (again!!) well me PC is a fujitsu siemens, 2.4ghz pentium 4, with 764 MB Ram. If it helps. I cna I have an ATI Raedon 9550/x1045 Video card. I have Divx installed which does play its videos very well. I also have windows media 11 installed again good reproduction. Why don't I leave it at that? well my son was insistent that Itunes is better(?) and I though that Apple would ensure that they were the best, so was curious as to why they seem to have the sound OK, but not the rest (as outlined). Hope I have given you sufficient info.
