I'd bet good money you've become one of the latest casulties in the war against spyware. As the name implies, it's software that spies on your activities and reports them back to someone covertly. Most of the time, this software makes Microsoft's work seem stable as a rock.

Download a copy of Ad-Aware, Spybot and whatever other spyware removal tools you can find. Update their definition files and run each one at least twice. You'll probably find a few hundred items.

Once that's done, you might want to avoid certain programs that are prone to letting this stuff onto your system. Programs such as Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Kazaa (and virtually every other P2P program), and Windows Media Player 8 & 9 (probably older versions as well). Those are the big ones, there are plenty of smaller ones out there, but that's what Ad-Aware and friends are for.

You can substitute in Mozilla or Firebird & Thunderbird ( http://www.mozilla.org ) for IE and OE, Kazaa should be counted as a lost cause, and WMP can be replaced with MediaPlayer Classic ( http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358&release_id=212449 ). All of which are free, just as functional -- if not more so -- and contain absolutely no spyware nor do they really make it as easy to be infected with such.

Try going to power options in your control panal and setting your time out from default 15 minute to never for all but your monitor. This is propably not caused by spyware as suggested. I had this problem also and was instructed to do the same by my ISP, walla, no more report pop-ups. Hope this helps

Do you have IE 6 Service pack installed?

If not you could install it and it might fix the problem
