Shawn,

TechTracker does not officially support Windows 2000, listing Windows XP as the minimum operating system requirement. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling TechTracker, but given the underlying differences between the two operating systems it may not be possible to run TechTracker without upgrading Windows. You can also try UpdateStar and VersionTracker Pro, the latter of which is a precursor to TechTracker, though compatibility with those applications is also not guaranteed.

John

TechTracker and Windows 2000
Mar 9, 2010 4:55AM PST

Hello Shawn,

As stated, TechTracker is not officially supported in Windows 2000.

Please read the following carefully!

This specific error you are seeing is not unique to CNET TechTracker, but is present in many new applications you may try to install on your Windows 2000 machine. Note that you can sometimes get around it by updating your Windows Installer to the most recent 2000-compatible version, however, this is NOT a fix - TechTracker will only give you other errors afterward. (I bring this up because it might be a helpful tip for other applications you could have trouble with on Windows 2000.)

We're sorry for the inconvenience! At this point, Windows 2000's code base is so far behind that it did not make sense for us to work around it.

Regards,

It has a download of that file (many other places can be found, but this one looks rather good). Either copy it to c:\windows\system32 or the same folder as your techtrackker-application is in.
