error name is duplicte

I have been trying to installing a new lan card but everytime it comes up it it says the name is a repeat. it is a linksys card and i hve tried to install about three times but the same message comes up i would like to know if i need to completely redo windows xp or if there is some other way to install it

You didn't give much information, so...
Give this a try -

Boot to "Safe Mode"
Access "Device Manager"
Remove all the NIC entries
Reboot the computer without the LAN card installed
Shut down - install your card - Reboot
Do the install

If your m-board has "onboard" LAN...
...make sure it is disabled in the BIOS.

When I said...

Access "Device Manager"
