My wife had complained about not being able to open a new version of IE, subsequently minimizing it, only to see it disappear. I first tried rebooting and then recreating the problem. I WAS able to minimize without seeing it disappear. But I got the message:
Helpctr has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL when trying to access System Information. After that, I got a popup message saying, Spybotsd has caused an unknown error in <unknown>. After that, I got the message, "Runtime Error 216@004042D2"

I put "Runtime Error in Google to see what came up, and the first one is at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=259279 which suggest the possibility of a SubSeven Trojan virus. It had links to places giving instructions on eliminating the virus if she has it, but they were quite complicated.

For Helpctr has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL, I found this reply: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winme/1054001416

I didnt find anything for the spybot error message.

Hopefully there isnt much to worry about, here. I sure dont want to have to get rid of a trojan she "might" have. Is there a way to know for sure?

Brian

I might add that Ive also noticed a red arrow on the Sygate icon on the download side (left side) instead of a green one.

I'd run HOUSECALL.

The web based antivirus may find your bug, trojan or even good old Friendgreet.
