error message in windows 8

Aug 6, 2013 12:27PM PDT

I've noticed that certain software (e.g., Secunia PSI, CCleaner) and parts of Windows 8 (e.g., Windows Update) have begun to become extremely sluggish or lock up my Asus laptop when trying to start them up. I ran the Resource and Performance Monitor and received the following diagnostic result:

Error

Symptom: Failure using the VxD loader.
Cause: A device has a configuration problem that prevents it from working properly.
Details: The device, StorLib bus (virtual storages support), is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr19". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ROOT\STORLIB\0000.
Resolution: 1. Verify the correct driver is installed.
2. Try updating the drivers using Windows Update.
3. Check with the manufacturer for an updated driver.
4. Attempt to uninstall and then reinstall the device using Device Manager.

I have searched high and low and cannot, for the life of me, figure out what to what device this is referring. I've checked Device Manager and do not see any problems with anything there.

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Jason

Not a good one.

Since use of those is optional you may want to see if the authors figure out how to get it fully compatible with 8.

Remember, 8 is rather new and the software folk are peddling hard.

confused
Aug 7, 2013 3:17AM PDT

Sorry, Bob. I'm not following. Use of what....Secunia PSI? CCleaner? They were working fine for 3-4 months until a couple days or so ago. I'm not even sure if the error message I received is related to the issues, but though it was interesting and timely.

Any idea what "StorLib bus (virtual storages support)" is? And what "tv_ConfigMgrErr19" means? I did a Google search, but came up with nothing of use.

Thanks.

Not confused here.

Microsoft and those companies update and boom it fails. Since you have specific titles that failed, you should head to their support forum next. The only good news is that those titles look to be optional. That is, my Windows 8 PC will work fine without them.

error message clarification

That's true, Bob, but I still don't know what "StorLib bus (virtual storages support)" and "tv_ConfigMgrErr19" mean.

Both seem to have discussions about such.
Aug 7, 2013 6:57AM PDT
https://www.google.com/search?q=tv_ConfigMgrErr19 seems to buzz around a device that is not working. Since you didn't write, or I missed what hardware is not working, I didn't go any further on that.

Same for the other:
https://www.google.com/search?as_q=The+device+StorLib+bus+virtual+storages+support+is+reporting

There are discussions about such but I'm missing a failed item to reduce this to something more than a swamp buggy ride during the night.

For now I could uninstall the apps that died and see if it that clears it up.

stil stumped

Thing is -- nothing, as far as hardware, died (to my knowledge) and there are no error or corrupt/missing driver indications in Device Manager. So I'm stumped.

Then a HJT log please. It lets me see under the hood.

Keep in mind that there can be issues with Microsoft updating left and breaking said apps.

Since the apps are not something we use at the office I defer to the support forums for said apps.

Possibly SugarSync
Sep 10, 2013 8:34AM PDT

I'm seeing this error on Windows 7 x64. Google helped me find http://sugarsync.hivelive.com/comment/13583 and sure enough, when I turn on hidden devices in Device Manager, I see under Virtual File System that "StorLib bus (virtual storages support)" has an exclamation point. Double-click to see Properties, and the Device Status shows "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I did test SugarSync at one point a few months ago. It seems the uninstall only partially removed this device. I right-clicked on the device and chose Uninstall, checking "Delete the driver software for this device." The device disappeared, as did the warning in the Performance Monitor report.

Whether this has anything to do with your system's sluggish performance, I don't know.

Hybrid Hard Drive Installed?
Sep 27, 2013 8:50AM PDT

Has the boot process slowed down and you have a Hybrid hard drive? Make sure all flash drives are removed, no thumbdrives, no camera SD cards, etc. See if the error msg continues. That error msg sounds like something associated with flash media, and if all that is removed and it remains, then maybe a driver that helps access any flash media that remains, such as on a Hybrid drive, or a motherboard with a backup boot system installed internally or attached internally where it's not obvious to you.
