Error loading 2ndsrch.dll message on start-up of Win 98

Dec 1, 2003 12:24PM PST

I can find this file in c:\windows\system and I see the date on the file is within the last two days. What does this file do, and how can I fix this issue?

Spyware on your machine. Why did you load it?
One wonders by the way why so many spyware shows itself by giving all kinds of errors in stead of just hiding itself and doing its nasty work unnoticed. Well, it's a lucky coincidence for you.

A good review of this one: http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/f/freescratchcards.asp

You can follow the manual removal instructions on that site, or run Adaware or Spybot. Better still: all five of Bob Proffits anti-parasite suite in http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 to totally clean up your machine.

You'll find this easy, if a little bit time-consuming, to repair.

Thanks Kees! Spybot and my McAfee VShield & Scan were not catching / repairing my problem. I did run all the apps. that you pointed to in http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0

and that seems to have fixed my issue. I also went into msconfig and unchecked C:\Program Files/Common Files\slmss\slmss.exe under the "startup" tab.

Thanks again!

And thanks to Bob for his 'Anti-parasite Suite'. This proves it value.

That's an easy one. Lots of it is just not very well written, luckily for us. At least this helped one user catch something he might not have caught otherwise.
