Question

error installing latest Windows update KB4013429

Mar 22, 2017 6:43PM PDT

My computer is a 32 bit system running Windows 10 Pro.
I upgraded from Windows 7 in June 2016 and all updates since then have installed properly without any issues.
Since last week this update KB 4013429 is failing to install. Does anyone have any suggestions?
After it downlaods the update and tried to install it always gives up at the end saying it can't install and is undoing the changes.

I downloaded and ran Windows Update Troubleshooter three times. It says it found and fixed the same four errors each time:

1- Some security settings are missing or have been changed.
2- Service registration is missing or corrupt
3- Potential Windows Update database error detected
4- Windows Update Components must be repaired

After that I tried the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- the operation completed successfully

After that I tried:
sfc /scannow

The result was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I have also gone to the Windows catalog and downloaded the update but can only do the cummulative update
because my computer is only a 32 bit system. However after all this nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions would be appreicated.

Answer
Here's a thing.

Updates can fail, they call home to Microsoft, Microsoft notices failures, time passes and a new update may show up.

Did you let this stew for a few weeks?

Thank you for your reply.I haven't let it sit and stew very long;only one week.
Perhaps doing nothing but waiting is the best and easiest option.

KB4015438 Emergency Fix For KB4013429
Mar 23, 2017 9:47AM PDT

Microsoft has released an emergency "fix" for it's previously released KB4013429 update which caused a few crash issues with Windows 10 Build 1607. See the Microsoft article below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4015438/windows-10-update-kb4015438

I recommend downloading the full Offline installer for KB4015438 to your desktop, then run it. It should install and correct the issues you're seeing. Be sure to download the 32bit version from the link below:

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4015438

Hope this helps.

Interesting.. Got About 20 Win10 Comps Here...
Mar 23, 2017 7:31PM PDT

...After checking only a couple and finding the entries on both of them, I'll assume they all have those file and registry entries but NONE of them have failed the problem update install. Still, none of them were involved in the "Windows Insider Program". Although obviously, the fix takes care of the problem for you and others, I'll guess something else is also linked to the issue as indicated by the tie to the "Windows Insider Program". As usual, only Microsoft knows.

Thanks for the update though and good find..
