Hi, I just posted this on Virus and Security Alerts, but I just realized that perhaps this was the more appropriate forum to post on? In any case, sorry for the double post!
Hi. If anyone could PLEASE give me some advice on what to do that would be great...
I am using Windows XP
At the end of last week I installed PC-cillin IS 2005 on my computer. I only installed the AV because I wanted to keep my ZA firewall that I had used the week before and found it good. However, after a couple of days I was getting a little annoyed with ZA because it didn't seem to be working all too well with TM, and also ZA was just giving me internet connectability problems for certain pages. So I decided to uninstall then reinstall TM to get the full IS suite.
I think this may possibly have been a source of the problem... During the uninstall there were some files TM quarantined b/c they contained viruses. All were labeled as trojans, except for one that was labeled as a Java Applet malware. TM couldn't clean the file so it quarantined them. However, when I was un-installing to reinstall, I found a window that popped up that said that some files were in quarantine and that they should be deleted. So I thought that since they were viruses, I'd just delete them. I reinstalled TM again and things seemed to be ok. However, I noticed that the computer had just restarted itself several times before it finally fully rebooted. And now at times the computer may just randomly restart itself while XP seems to be running normally. I also notice that during startup, before I get the normal starting screen with my desktop, the screen often blacks out for a sec and then comes back... Then an error window comes up and gave me this info from the MS site when I clicked on the link:

I had originally tried System Restore for Sunday, which was the day before Monday when I did the re-install of TM. However, System Restore failed. In fact it failed also for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday for any restore points. I couldn't get it back to an earlier date. I couldn't get any earlier than SUnday also because I disabled system restore on that day to do this scan of my computer (long story). So anyhow, now my computer sometimes restarts again while its restarting, or 2 or 3 times already it just spontaneously decides to restart itself after windows has fully loaded.
I have really no idea what I can possibly do. The couple of days I had TM with ZA it seemed to be working fine. No odd restarting or crashing issues. But it was that day after I deleted the quarantined files and reinstalled TM that all the issues seemed to begin.
I also have all the latest Windows Updates and my TM is up to date too.
Please, if there is anyone out there that may be able to provide any suggestions, please post back. I'm desperate! Thanks!
