Error 721-for modem

by mudfish67 / October 23, 2005 8:40 PM PDT

I am have just started getting error 721 (the remote computer did not respond) when I try and dial into my ISP (bellsouth) This just started a couple days ago.
I have no trouble connecting using my laptop and the same phone line. Any thoughts or ideas about what the problem might be?

Mudfish, It's Usually Modem Drivers or Modem Failure...

Indeed check the solutions posted by Toni above but I've had that error a couple of times and in both situations, the computer was fairly old and the modem had gone south.

You don't mention the operating system of the computer but if it's Windows XP per your profile, then I would certainly try updating the dial-up modem's drivers from the modem's manufacturer..If that doesn't help, then dial-up modems can be purchased for very little money if you watch for sales in your area.

Hope this helps.

this usually happens in hp pavillion pcs with lucent win modems if you have a hp goto

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

or contact the hardware manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest Windows XP-compatible driver for the modem.

can also happen after you upgrade your computer to Microsoft Windows XP from Microsoft Windows 98, from Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or from Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)

just do the same as above
