Before you use a prior discussion about Error 1706 (I don't repeat it because it's been done many times) I suggest you try REVO UNINSTALLER and see if that clears it up.
Bob
I installed Adobe Creative Suite 2 on an older XP laptop, and put the program files on a backup drive attached via USB - a mistake, I now realize. The backup drive failed and now every time I start the machine, open Control Panel or do anything with Windows Explorer a small window with an error 1706 opens up telling me it is trying to install Acrobat Pro (part of the Adobe suite), and searching for the file AcroPro. I can cancel out of it eventually, but it's a giant pain.
I've tried deleting files that might be causing this, but have not found the source. I've tried reinstalling the Adobe suite, but the machine now thinks it is already installed and won't let me install. I've tried uninstalling Acrobat Pro, but that doesn't work either as it thinks it's not there.
What I need is to know where the files triggering the install are in XP. Any ideas?
