I'd start with http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/stop0x0000007b.htm
Then if nothing found, I'd boot from a Linux disk and see what it thinks about the drive.
Then, if it finds it OK, I'd get my Windows XP disk and do a repair install.

This occurred during the reboot after I installed an update to Shadowprotect backup software. I tried chkdsk /r, spinrite level 2, and Kaspersky rescue disk. It gives the error even when trying to go into safe mode.
Any other suggestions or has the hard drive decided to go south for the winter? Thanks.
