General discussion

Eric Schmidt, Google, ChromeOS, Andriod, StartUp Mode

Jan 20, 2011 8:33PM PST

Dear Buzz Gang and Crew,
I am actually quite surprised at this announcement. Google really must have some serious internal issues in that they are now having to make management changes at the top. Based on all of the articles I have read, Larry Page and Sergey Brin as well as some of the board members were not very happy at Google's execution on some various products and services.

1. Clearly Google has made some missteps on Android regarding version and release consistencies as well as missing the tablet OS release timelines.

2. What the heck is going on with Chrome OS?

3. Their social networking initiative also was not very successful.

Google is not hitting on all cylinders in the same manner that Apple has been able to do which is why I think Larry Page has made comments in several press releases:"My goal is to run Google at the pace and with the soul and passion of a startup"

This quote alone says volumes for what is going on at Google. It will be interesting to watch what happens now at Google.

Later People.

Poor Google...

They've never been able to successfully break into the social networking realm, and can't buy Facebook. What ever will they do? Hey, I'm sure they could buy MySpace for a song now. At least it's a platform that people know.

Or Schmidt just wants to be a meet and greet dealmaking guy

and let someone else deal with managing the company. Larry Page is not the first person who comes to mind when I think of top level management material for a huge corporation like Google.

Maybe Page will surprise us by injecting some non-evil into the company again. Personally, I have grown tired of Google's grandstanding about how "open" they are as they maneuver around making deals in the background that says something else altogether.

I think Schmidt got fired

A. He was too evil, Larry Page did not want to compromise principles with China.
B. Social networking. Future of search is using your private info, interests, location, friends to find results more relevant to you. Google can't do this if Facebook is who dominates social.

I sincerely hope you are right about the evil part.

I'm not looking forward to social networks putting their tendrils out into the open web however. I don't want to be bombarded by my friends and families faces on sites all over the web about what products they like, etc. Keeping my Facebook profile off of external sites is already a never ending battle that has seriously made me consider leaving FB. If Google starts playing fast and loose with my privacy like FB does its time for me to look for a new search engine.

Kids do grow up.

If you look at it again you see the kids who started it all have grown up. Cheers for everyone here as they knew to get help and guidance back then.
