Now that the 400GB drive is inside the enclosure, how are you connecting to the iMac?
USB or Firewire? Firewire is the connection of choice.
You do not need to erase the drive, just initialize it. Kinda the same but different.
The drive inside the enclosure MUST be set to Master.
Where did you get the enclosure and is the Firewire bridge capable of HD sizes above 120GB?

I just bought a Seagate 400gig internal hard drive, and put it in an enclosure that runs firewire and usb. I connected it to my Imac G5 running 10.4 and it comes up in Disk utility, but when I try to erase it, I get the spinning beach ball of death and I have to force quit Disk utility. I tried configuring it as a master and as a slave. Same results. Any suggestions?
