erasing all data

Hi My hard drive if slowly failing . as soon as my new PC arrives and all the backups are loaded into it I would like to erase my computer clean before discarding it . What is the best way to securely erase the HDD? My present PC is win7 64 bit.

all the important backup are on external drives and will be loaded into a new win10 computer

The easy way is to take out the HDD before discarding the PC.

But DBAN (free download) is a good alternative.
