I believe I am asking the same question but here it is; do I need a NIC card for my desktop computer? It is a P2,400mz Dell. I have ordered the HP zt3000, with a 2200 b/g wireless. The HP was delayed in shipment, so HP has sent me a $50 coupon. I know I will need a router but should I use the coupon to buy the router or the nic card? Also, if I max out on memory on the desktop, I can get it up to 384 Ram (from existing 96 ram), it is now running win98. Will the 98-XP be a conflict with networking?
Thanks

I can't answer how to spend the coupon. Besides shipping, 50 bucks would pay for a router and a network card from compgeeks... But that may not be for you since I find most routers need the firmware updated before they work. Very odd...

As to 98/XP, such does work together but tends to have people learning about networking, accounts, permissions and more. But it all does work.

If I were to hook the existing desktop (Win-9Cool to the router via cable and then use the laptop (XP with wireless card already) wireless, would I still need a NIC card for the desktop?
