Epson Scanner (Send to E-mail does not support Win Live Mail

Feb 21, 2010 3:13AM PST

I have used my Epson scanner Perfection 4490 Photo, and Earthlink.net with all the last three versions of windows,Using:(pop3.earthlink.net)and (smtpauth.earthlink.net)and Scan to Email worked perfectly.

I now have Win 7 KUltimate and when the Scan to E-mail button is selected I get the little window: "The supported E-mail program is
not installed,. Install the E-mail progam and try again.:

All other scanner buttons work perfectly.

I emailed Epson Tech support, explained the problem and received the following reply"

From Epson Tech support:"Your email app must be a MAP-I based program. If Windows Live is web based it will not work"

How can I make my Earthlink.net a MAP-I based program. Can I safely replace the pop 3 with MAP-I,without fouling up anything,and/or how will this effect my earthlink.net mail?

The two work-arounds I found:
1. Install MS Outlook; WLM will pick up it's MAPI engine, it seems.
2. Save the scanned file to disk and send it as an attachment.

Don't confuse MAPI and pop3.
- MAPI has to do with the way the mail functions are called from inside your computer.
- pop3 has to do with the way your mail client is 'talking' with your ISP

Thanks Kees,

Guess I will stay with what I have as I have several other ways to send files jpgs and gifs, animated or otherwise as email attachments or embedded and really no great need for Scan to Email Button.

Appreciate the info and the fast reply
