Epson R300 - No Driver for System 7

Jan 19, 2010 2:54AM PST

After updating to Windows System 7 my Epson Stylus PHOTO R300 will no longer print CD/DVD Labels. They have a program to print them but no driver for the printer. I called Epson and was told they have no plans to provide a driver for System 7. This is the second time I have had a perfectly good Epson device (an earlier scanner... same thing) that became useless when Epson did not provide a driver for an updated Microsoft operating system. My R300 is less than 5 years old and now it's junk. I will never ever buy another Epson product!

Windows 7?

I think that some may find your post amusing but you're right. After a few years most makers will not issue drivers or software. The reason is brutal but here it is. There is no income from that model to pay the programmers. And for those that think such should be paid from the sales of current products the problem is that this would increase the cost of new devices which will cause the entire company to lose sales and collapse.

Hope that explains it. But here's the real short version -> "It's the money."

Epson (and others) drivers

Bob is right, we see a lot of this, EVERY time there is an OS change and yes, it does get frustrating to say the least. But it is NOT just Epson, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger, we have all been there at one time or another. Good luck!
