Epson R220 printer

Feb 18, 2006 2:04AM PST

I just installed my brand new Epson R220 printer. I went to the website as instructed to see if there were any updated drivers. My brand new software version is 5.0. On the website, there was a driver called "version 5.5."

I am not at all clear how to update the driver from the one I just installed. The FAQs on the website were not all that helpful. There was mention of uninstalling any previous version of the driver from the add/remove prgrams, but when I went into my add/remove programs, I saw no driver listed there.

Can someone help walk me through the basics on this one? I would SO SO appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

If you downloaded

If you downloaded the new driver, put it on a disk or CD

Right click on My Computer

Left click on Properties

Left click on Device Manager

Look for Printer (USB Printer) or however it's connected. It should be easy to spot.

Left click on it then left click on Properties.

Left click on the driver tab

Left click on the update driver and follow the instructions. (If you have it on a disk, it will locate it quicker.)

I tried this on an older model printer and wished that I did NOT update the driver. You'll just have to see how it goes.

Hope this helps.

One more question if that's okay?
Feb 18, 2006 8:46PM PST

Thanks so much. I will follow these instructions.

One more question.

Here is what the site says about download:

''This file self-extracts to your hard drive and is placed in c:\epson\epson11666.
Download Now''

So it seems it will not give me the option to save it where I want to save it. Should I burn it to a disk after I download it? Then follow your instructions?

It's not necessary

It's not necessary to locate it and save or burn a copy of the driver, unless you want a copy for backup purposes.

If you follow the instructions I gave you earlier, it will ask you if you want Windows to find the best driver(recommended). Say yes and it will search for it and should find the new driver and install it. Please do yourself a favor and after you install the driver for the printer, restart your computer. I find that most programs work better if you reboot your computer, without rebooting, the have a tendency to have problems.

Hope this helps.

Rick: need more help
Feb 19, 2006 12:00PM PST

I followed your instructions, and when I got to the device manager, I saw no printer. The closest thing I saw was my Epson scanner under the Image Devices. I looked under everything. Can you help me once more?

Also, do I need to uninstall the old driver first, before following your instructions?

That's probably it

That's probably it.

Just click on it

click on properties

click on driver

update driver

and use Windows recomended.

It should find the newer driver for it.

Just look at everything and make sure that everything there doesn't have a yellow triangle with an explanation mark in it. If you find such, update the driver for it and they should go away. Remember to restart your computer then.

Look at everything and if you find anything that says Epson update those in the device manager also.

***Special note***
You must be administrator to do these things.

Hope this helps.
