Epson printers are grief

Jul 29, 2007 7:21AM PDT

I purchased a new Windows computer and an Epson CX5400 A-I-O. Just after a year was up, the Epson print heads died. I still called Epson and complained. I was sent a DHL label and shipped it back to Epson for repair. It couldn't be repaired so Epson sent me a new CX6000 A-I-O free. I appreciated this since I had spent a lot of money replacing the 4 ink cartridges during the many nozzle checks, cleanings and head adjustments. It still works but I try not to use it much.

Shortly after this purchase, I bought a Mac with an Epson CX6600. Today, it stopped printing just after I replaced all 4 cartridges. More nozzle checks, cleanings and head adjustments and it still prints in Braille (sarcasm is the lowest form of humor). The Epsons seem to work until a new ink cartridge is installed.....then they die.

Fortunately, I have a really inexpensive Canon Pixma ip-1500 which works great and prints text and photos perfectly; much better than any Epson I have owned. I give up on Epson!

Could it be the Dura-Brite inks?

I am having Epson problems as well
Aug 2, 2007 7:14AM PDT

I am also having epson problems as well. I have gone through two printers in two years, with the second just dying about a week ago.

It was an Epson Photo R300.

I have been rather frustrated with Epson tech support as well, as both times on the phone they recommended I purchase new ink to see if that fixed the problem. As you may know the Epson ink is very expensive. It didn't work on the first printer and I wasted ~$50. This time I said no way to them on the phone, and now I am looking for a new printer.

I wish you the best of luck. It wasn't long ago when printers lasted a long time. I really am pleased with the Canon Pixma ip-1500 which is a printer only. I will probably buy another Canon All-in-One because I need to scan old family photos.

But, no more Seiko-Epsons for me. Epson Customer Service always tries that scam with "change the ink cartridges" and this has never worked for me...I just throw away more money, too.

I like the HP idea of replacing the printing heads with each new cartridge but I've read too many complaints about HP printers which used to be the best years ago.

How about something substantial?

My neighbor, my dad and I all own the HP k550. It's fast and not the usual sub 99 buck printer.

I paid $150. for the Epson CX5400 and $200. for the CX6600. I got just over a years use with each printer. That's too expensive. I'll check out your suggestion of HP

Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I was thinking of buying a cheap all-in-one and when it runs out of ink, trash it.
