Epson All-in-One CX6400 unresolvable conflicts

Mar 24, 2004 4:00PM PST

I have had two Epson All-in-One CX6400s within the past month. They work for a whole day and then there are conflicts and the printer and/or the scanner stop working altogether.

I have Windows 98se - is that the problem?

Am I the only person on Earth who cannot get this wonderful unit to work properly?

What's the trick?

Thank you!

With the passage of time, Windows 98 is not being upgraded to fix its old problems such that one would reboot a few times a day to reclaim resources or recover from a crash. NOTHING has changed or been issued in this OS to address those areas.

New users of this OS may expect better behaviour, but its time to be honest that this OS is what it is and may not work for many past a day.

Could your issue be the printer or the OS or your expectation that you should have to reboot 1/2 through the day/evening?

Be aware that your post has issues. No mention of what the error was, but more a general "it doesn't work." There's not much to grasp onto.

The units have worked for many, but with all the PARASITES out there (reference http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ ) it too hard at times to tell if a person's woes are some product or a collection of issues.

you may want to make sure you have the latest driver from Epson for Win98 SE.

I've got a new CX5400 and am running XP Pro. When I installed it by itself I had no trouble whatsoever. Then I installed an Epson Stylus Color 440 as a second printer using the new drivers from the Epson site for it. Once finished I immediately noticed that I had lost the Status Monitor function on both machines, and lost the progress meter on both machines. I uninstalled the SC440 and still have no Status Monitor function on the CX5400. The printer works fine but after two weeks of back and forth talks with Epson I still have incomplete function. I've uninstalled both machines, reinstalled just the CX5400, gone into the registry to clean everything out and still no luck. Epson just sent me an email and have given up, they have no idea how to get things to work the way they did in the beginning. I like the printer but have come to believe that they have some bugs in their software.
